This program provides an introduction to the Harm Reduction model of treatment for addiction and substance abuse.  Harm reduction approaches, although not new, have yet to gain traction in the larger treatment community and the public. Clinicians will learn to apply this progressive, alternative and science based approach to their daily clinical practice. Healthcare professionals who come into contact with mild to severe substance use problems will benefit from this training opportunity.

Learning Objectives:

1.       Describe the general principles of harm reduction psychotherapy in the treatment of addiction and substance use disorders.

2.       Identify the various models of addiction and substance abuse.

3.       Apply harm reduction principles to treatment planning for substance use problems.
